I've no idea whether it will work on my old Acer, but thought it worth a try. Where did you find it? I am reluctant to download from third party sites, but if there's one that is free and doesn't bundle a virus, I'd try it. Many years ago, I swore never to buy anything from AMD again, and this Acer was my last purchase of a machine with their chipsets.
They really should have got their act together by now. I had actually just found it on the website before I checked back here and have been trying it out. The website said it was for Radeon cards upwards - mine was an , but I gave it a go. I went through your instructions and it led to a notice that I had no hardware that matched the driver, and just gave the option OK.
But then it seemed to drop into the full Catalyst install, so I just let it proceed. It went through all the motions and appeared to install correctly. The log file was full of various features with "Success" as the result. I looked through Device manager and could find nothing with a new driver, but the machine was now massively faster than it had been before. I've rebooted a few times and it has definitely now stable and usable, whereas before it was just too slow to use at all.
I can't say that I could recommend this to others as I don't know what has changed, but these ATI display drivers do contain chipset drivers. I've previously had this with problems with usb, where the ATI display drivers included drivers for the south bridge part of the chipset.
It won't bother AMD, but in the last two weeks I've been consulted about replacement machines by friends and both times I've steered them away from AMD. Thanks again for the help.
It's really good to have this machine working well again and on W10TP. This is the reason why this was and will be my last AMD laptop. She has Windows 7 and got the Reserve Windows 10 icon automatically and registered for the Windows 10 upgrade. I had trouble with getting the display to fill the entire screen even with Windows 8 when I tried it, so she had stayed on Windows 7 all this time.
I wanted to make sure that Windows 10 was truly going to work with her touch screen. What worked for me was to download the drivers from AMD but choose Custom install. I have a similar problem. Radeon chip and a touch screen monitor attached via HDMI. CCC does not display the "My Digital Flat Panel" and other selections because it says there is no digital display so I can not set the overscan to fill the screen.
This all worked until build If it is not fixed by the next build I will have to go back to XP or Windows 7. See Build Catalyst Control and digital displays for more details. Did you try what I did? It took me a long time to get it to work. I had the same issue when I tried Windows 8 on this computer, but did finally get it to work, so I thought I could figure it out again with Windows Windows 10 will auto-install a driver for the graphics card, but not the Catalyst software that makes the display fill the screen to the edge.
Mine was a clean install to a new partition on the hard disk, just to see if Windows 10 would work right. I would totally uninstall all graphics drivers, let Windows Update put in it's own driver and then add the Catalyst software but be sure to exclude the video driver itself, by choosing Custom install for the Catalyst software. Tell us about your experience with our site. TravisKiddey Created on November 8, You will need the following package from AMD: Run the extractor 2.
Close the Catalyst Installer when it comes up 3. Navigate in Explorer to C: Go to Compatibility tab. Select Windows 7 from the drop down. Hit Apply and then OK. Progress bar deal again, screen should switch to low resolution and back. Eventually, the Installer will say it's complete with a green check mark. Soviet France Nov 26, , 6: I recently obtained a copy of Windows 8 xbit, and I would like to install it to my system. When I installed it, my screen was stuck at x, and I could not change it. I have a x monitor, so it was quite an eye-sore. I have an old GPU, and I won't be getting a new one for a couple months, so getting a new GPU as of this moment is out of the question. If I download the driver and let it extract the files needed to the root of my primary HDD where Windows 8 will be installed , and then try to update my drivers from the files itself in the Device Manager, would it work and allow me to change my resolution to it's optimal value?
