The only thing that happened was is that the package opened in a new explorer window. Then I tried installing them as per advice found in https: Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool Version: Finally I tried unpacking the drivers and using Update Driver in Device Manager and browsing to the unpack directories. Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed.

There is a separate Audio driver for Win 8. I'm not very keen in installing third party applications to do basic stuff like driver updates. HW and OS manufacturer tools have always been sufficient, and with ready-made systems like laptops I generally rely on the manufacturer's offering. Maybe I'll be surprised. Slimware did find some other outdated drivers, but none of them is related to audio, chipsets or any bus. I doubt updating my webcam or touchpad drivers would change the situation.

It's just what I'm trying now as it's the only related thing I've not been able to update ever. If you check the very first link in my very first post, you'll find the issue why I'm actually trying to update the Audio driver. Audio and video just randomly stop working, both streamed and local. Reboot's the only way to resolve the situation. Might work for three weeks, might work for three minutes, then it's back. Today twice while streaming Youtube. No corresponding errors or warnings in Windows logs I've been fighting with this for over a year now.
I downloaded it but didn't install yet. Firstly because the version number R2. The filenames and versioning style in the driver I downloaded from the catalog match the filenames in my system. Maybe they do use Realtek chips? Nonetheless I'm just now going through the Readme file to see whether I have any of the files provided by the Realtek driver, and if their versioning matches the files on my system. I have the same question 0. I think what I'd do is trust Slim Drivers which I use to find harder-to-find drivers. Just be sure to decline it's Cleaner install, run it to see if it finds your driver and if so install it and then uninstall the app. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I rarely use driver finders myself and do not recommend them in my install tutorials which have millions of users, but this is the kind of exception where I thought it would save time since it's always been reliable for me, and if not it is easily rolled back from Device Manager or System Restore.
