Windows Update Printer Driver Windows 7 Install Update

When I upgraded this computer I noticed that a document I had been printing using XP no longer printed graphics properly. All three computers are networked. If I print it on the Win7 computer using the "Oki C MS " driver that is the only one provided with the windows 7 distribution, the document prints wrong.

Using the "MS" driver I get the same incorrectly printed document. Using the "PCL" driver I do get the correct output. It is the driver. I need a different driver on my Win7 computer. I tried to update my Win7 computer using the steps outlined below in my original email and reiterated on the "Fixing a Printer Driver that Won't Work" link that you sent me.

Please try again later. This is the key. I am being blocked from getting the updated printer driver options using Windows update. What is weird is that the very first time I tried to get updated drivers, on this computer, it did work. And it has worked on other Windows 7 computers here. But now all it does is give me that message. All references to replacing the driver use that "Windows Update" routine. But it isn't working. Yes, I have reset the computer several times and I do get standard Windows updates just fine.

I just can't us the "Windows Update" routine to update printer drivers. I click on "Windows Update" and it returns "Windows was unable to get a list of drivers from Win Update. How do I get around this? It did work once on this PC but I needed some additional info before I could complete the update.

Every subsequent attempt to get the Windows Update printer driver list had given me that message. I do have full internet and network access and can do regular Windows Updates just fine Any help? What is the make and the model of the printer? Have you made any changes to your computer? Did you receive any error message? First you might go to Device Manager, right click your Printer device in the list and select Update Driver Software; then click Search automatically for updated driver software.

Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version.

In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.

Did this solve your problem? Sorry this didn't help. That being said, let's try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer in a specific way: Uninstall the printer driver from the PC. Re-install the Printer driver with the latest version from the manufacturer's website. Download the driver from HP website and save it to your computer.

Follow the instructions To manually install a printer driver from last link, Find and install printer drivers, Matthew provided in his reply. If you are still unable to install the driver, please create a new thread here. In the new thread, please include the following:.

Im using Windows 7 Home Premium Bit. And that driver is already included in Windows 7 when you update. Find and install printer drivers: I was wondering if you have managed to find a solution for this problem. We have come across the exact same issue and we can reliably reproduce the issue on both bit and bit versions of Windows 7 with Service Pack 1.

How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. How satisfied are you with this response? In reply to Nithyananda J's post on April 9, I have had the same problem. I attempted to install a HP Color Laserjet dtn. When I clicked on "Windows Update" from the printer drivers list to repopulate the most current drivers, as the printer was not originally listed, I could not find a Laserjet PCL6 driver, which is what I would like.

When I went back to redo the install, I clicked Windows Update again, because interestingly, unfortunately, and rediculously, Windows did not remember that I had already downloaded the new printer drivers. More unfortunately, I got this same error message: Detach the Printer from the PC. Also, here are some printer references: Open the Printer troubleshooter http: Clearly, you are not reading with full comprehension of the issue. HP's website says this specifically, and does not offer a download for that purpose!!!

So, I cannot download the driver needed from the manufacturer's website. Second, I never got the driver to install the first time, so I cannot possibly uninstall it. Third, this is a networked printer, so I cannot possibly disconnect it. All I want to do is download the correct driver from the "Windows Update" feature in the printer drivers list box that you see when you use the "Add a printer" wizard.

Let's clear up another issue here. I am an intelligent person who has worked with computers as a user and programmer for ten years. The problems is with Microsoft Windows 7 or with the update server. The problem is not with any of my configuration. Anyone with any experience troubleshooting should be able to see this.

In reply to Dena B's post on April 22, You guys aren't paying attention. HP's website says the only way to get their drivers for Windows 7 is through the Windows "Add a Printer wizard", where you then click "Windows Update" to get a full, updated driver listing.
