Package arrived and the driver disk was split. Used model info on disk to go to OEM Site to download latest software. Digital output only though the Optical, so had to get an Optical to Coax converter for an old pair of Boston Accoustic Desktop Speakers.
Once you go strictly Digital Output none of the special effects software will work. Saw mixed reviews, but for the price I figured it was worth the gamble. Received it with in a week. Opened the package, and saw the backplate was a little bent. Not sure if that was due to shipping but anyway, I bent it back into shape. Stuck it in my computer running windows 7 x Windows update came up, installed the driver and it worked. Didn't have to finagle with anything. Sound quality is amazing.
My on board sound has 7. I'd recommend this product. Kudos to everything except that back plate being a little bent. I actually have a past of bad experiences from sound cards Well after awhile of hearing that crackling from my speakers due to my onboard audio, I decided to do detailed research on the best sound cards for the price. Well this one also had a toslink connection which is good for me considering I don't like rca that much anymore and I am more loving to digital sound. Well I purchased it with hopes and dreams that I may be able to have crystal clear sound finally and well this did it for me.
It really is a wonderful sound card. Well after going back to a desktop from a long time with a laptop, I wanted to have something worth every penny. Well it was worth it since it works great and it does what it's supposed to and then some. I think I might have found my new favorite sound card. Although I still am weirded out by why the companies name is "Rocket Fish", I definitely recommend this card. One person found this helpful.
I'm now seeing a coinciding purchase that really spells out this time of my life as attempting to seclude myself into a closed circuit world, and it wasn't just the MREs. The sound card would be fine if I could get rid of the popping and static eminating from my computer speaker. I can't get the sound card to function properly, I get static and popping from my speaks when using this cound card and only when using this sound card. I did go the manufactures page to make sure that this device is supported in windows 7 and it say on there that it is.
I was in the market since my Sound Blaster Audigy finally died on me I had that sound card since like I was in desperate need of an audio card but didn't really want to spend any money on one.
Enter this audio card. It's a Rocketfish card - but all that means is that it is a rebranded Creative card. Installation was simple and for the price, this card gave audio that was much clearer than the crappy onboard audio I had. You have to be realistic. If you are looking for a great priced audio card that will do the job, than you will find it with this one. Wanting to try using my PC as a music source rather than shuffling through hundreds of CDs and often not finding what I wanted, I was looking for an inexpensive solution to see how cheaply I could get away with and get great sound quality.
I read conflicting and confusing opinions on optical digital output with some saying it's all ones and zeroes so sound card quality does not matter while others said clock jitter is a problem with cheap cards. I knew my onboard sound in this Dell Inspiron was only tepid and of course no digital output is provided. I also ordered the Mediabridge Toslink Cable at 25 feet, which may be a bit long for signal transfer, but we'll see.
The cable has not arrived yet, but when the card came today I couldn't wait and installed it to get ready. Having read some scary reviews about installation problems, I was careful to follow instructions and take precautions. I disabled on-board sound in the BIOS, shut down, installed the card and booted. Windows could not find a compatible driver, so I used the CD that came with the card. Software and drivers loaded and prompted a reboot.
I got brave and tried re-enabling on-board sound to allow my front headphone connection to work. Again, no problems or conflicts; no blue screen and no apparent performance hit. It was all pretty sweet so far. Now to test sound quality a bit via a mini jack connection. I gave it up and forgot about it for quite a while. Coming across a music server article in The Absolute Sound reignited my interest. So how does the Rocketfish love that name sound via mini jack?
It blows away my on-board sound. I have to wait to try it via optical output and will write an update then but, honestly, even if that doesn't work, I just may be happy with the mini jack solution. I need to get busy ripping CDs to iTunes now! See all 43 reviews. Customers also bought in related categories. Audio Multimedia Headset. Pages with related products.
